The Republic of Armenia celebrates the 30th anniversary of independence

30 years ago, on 21 September, 1991, by the decision of the Parliament, a referendum on leaving the USSR and declaring independence was held, as a result of which Armenia was declared an independent state. 94.99% of the citizens of the republic voted “yes” to Independence.

On 23 September, 1991, the Supreme Council declared Armenia an independent, sovereign state. Aram Manukyan, the deputy of the Supreme Council of Armenia, read the decision on the independence of the Republic of Armenia in the Parliament.

After the declaration of independence by the Supreme Council, dozens of states recognized the Republic of Armenia. The first is Lithuania, which recognized Armenia on August 14, 1991, before the declaration of independence. Then in 1991, 47 states recognized the independence of the Republic of Armenia.
